3 articles from each newspaper and how they follow IPSO.

The Sun:

• "Katie, 7 'Stabbed to death by girl, 15'"

This is an article about a young girl who got her throat cut by a 15 year old girl when walking home across a playing field.
-This article clearly follows the IPSO Code of Practice. Clause 6 states that 'A child under 16 must not be interviewed or photographed on issues involving their own child's welfare unless a custodial parent or similarly responsible adult consents.' The suspect is referred to as 'girl' rather than giving her name which protects her from the public.

• "GPs heap pressure on NHS by closing early."

This is a double page spread article focusing on family doctors fueling the A&E crisis by closing during peak times, making the wait in A&E extremely long. 

-This article follows the IPSO Code of Practice. Firstly, Clause 3 states that 'It is unacceptable to photograph individuals in a private place(such as a hospital) without their consent. The article includes a photograph of a group of people in A&E which they must have gained consent from. Furthermore, Clause 2 states that 'A fair oppurtunity for reply to incaccuracies must be given when reasonably called for'. This is demonstrated in the article when Sue Mason, Professor of Emergency Medicine replies with her view and suggestions to how the problem can be prevented.

Daily Mail:

• "Anger over hospital's 6 day delay to reveal tampered saline bags."

 This is an article about patients demanding to know why hospital chiefs waited a week before revealing they had called in police in fear of tampered saline bags.
- This article follows the IPSO Code of Practice. Clause 2 states that 'A fair opportunity for reply to inaccuracies must be given when reasonably called for.' This is shown in the article when a trust spokesman replied within the article defending the hospitals.


Oldham Evening Chronicle:

• "Teen yob sentence adjourned." 

This is an article about the sentencing of a 15 year old boy who went on a criminal damage spree in Oldham town centre, which has been adjourned until next month.
-This article follows the IPSO Code of Practice. Clause 6 states that  'A child under 16 must not be interviewed or photographed on issues involving their own child's welfare unless a custodial parent or similarly responsible adult consents.' This is shown in the article as the boy is referred to as 'teen' rather than his name. 

• "Police: Maple Mill fire 'was arson'."

 This is an article about a fire which ripped through Maple Mill in Hathershaw, burning for nine days. Police claim that the Maple Mill fire is being treated as arson, as shown in the headline. 

-This article follows the IPSO Code of Practice. Clause 1 states that 'The Press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information or images, including headlines not supported by the text."

• "Flexibility can lead to great results..." 

This is an article about Oldhams new police chief and his priorities involving working with the local community. 

-This article follows the IPSO Code of Practice. Clause 2 states that there must be a fair opportunity to reply. This is demonstrated in the article as the new police chief replies within the article stating that "We are a much smaller organisation than we used to be, but we have great people who make a difference every day".
